Hello, I'm Steve Wood and I'm a monochromatic, representational portrait painter from Southeast Michigan.

 

Often, I'm asked about my process. I start with a blank, white gesso-prepped canvas. After lightly sketching the image of my subject onto the surface with pencil, the rest is all transparent airbrush paint, sprayed through my Iwata airbrush. I use a number of different erasers and scratching tools to remove paint, creating necessary texture and depth, over which more layers of paint are applied. My paintings all include professional matting and framing and come ready for your wall with coated wire hanger installed.

If interested in commissioning a portrait, you should have a clear, well focused reference photo of your desired portrait subject. If it's a public figure, I can work with you to find the perfect reference. You should also have an approximate idea of the size you want. ​
