Artist Statement
I'm dedicated to expressing my passion through the medium of realistic monochromatic portraits on canvas. With an airbrush, I bring these portraits to life, utilizing both the application and removal of paint to create texture and depth. This delicate balance between adding and subtracting allows me to capture the intricacies of the human face, exploring the connection between expression, emotion, and the core of who we are.
My art journey is fueled by my fascination with faces, having human expression as an endless source of inspiration. Through careful observation and study, I try to depict the subtle nuances of each individual's features, revealing their unique stories and the many emotions they convey. Every stroke of paint and eraser mark becomes a dialogue between the subject and myself, resulting in a portrait that not only reflects an external appearance but also captures an inner spirit.
While my artistic exploration has varied, one theme that resonates deeply with me is the portrayal of musicians. As an ardent music fan, I'm captivated by the way music can evoke passion and emotion. By creating portraits of musicians, I honor their artistic expressions, capturing the intensity, passion, and creativity that emanate from their performance. Through the careful interplay of light and shadow, I seek to illustrate a connection between the music and it's effect on humanity.
In my work, I strive for a sense of realism that invites viewer engagement. The monochromatic palette, paired with the careful application of paint and subtle use of erasers and scratching blades, adds a tangible quality to my paintings. These techniques not only emphasize the three-dimensionality of the subject, but also invite viewers to contemplate the balance between presence and absence, beauty and imperfection, in both the artwork and the music itself.
